When something heartbreaking happens in our community, it’s the small acts of kindness that really make a difference. Naomi Boutz, owner of Vine & Olive Eatery and Wine Bar and Vicino Pizza, saw the devastating fire that destroyed Wolf Lodge Steakhouse on Labor Day and felt an immediate connection to the staff who had lost so much. As a fellow restaurant owner, she couldn’t help but put herself in their shoes and ask, “What would help me if I lost one of my restaurants?”
The answer was simple: bring people together.
On September 16, Naomi will be opening the doors of Vicino Pizza for a special dinner dedicated to the 33 employees of Wolf Lodge who are reeling from the loss. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a moment for these long-time employees to reconnect, share stories, and lean on each other during a tough time.
“They just need a space to be together,” Naomi shared. “A place where they can breathe, process, and know they’re not alone in this.”
But the support doesn’t stop at dinner. Naomi has teamed up with her distributors, who have donated beer and wine for the event, and US Foods has jumped in to help cover costs. In addition, Naomi plans to send each employee home with a care package that includes gift cards for groceries and gas, ensuring they have a little extra help during this difficult transition.
“We just want them to feel cared for,” she said. “Finding a new job in hospitality at the end of the tourist season can be really challenging, so we hope this makes the weeks ahead a bit easier.”
Wolf Lodge: a Landmark that Will Be Greatly Missed
The fire at Wolf Lodge struck a deep chord in the community. Located just 8 miles east of Coeur d’Alene, the restaurant had become a second home for many of its staff, some of whom had been there for decades. This wasn’t just a place to eat—it was a landmark. And now, as the community rallies to support those affected, people like Naomi are leading the way.
“Everyone loved Wolf Lodge. It’s been such an important part of our area for so long,” Naomi said. “Now, we’re just looking for ways to give back.”
And give back, they have. So far, three GoFundMe accounts have raised about $25,000 for their team, and Vine & Olive is collecting gift cards and donations through September 13. Naomi’s hope is to provide these employees with the resources they need to get through the coming days.
At Vine & Olive, it’s clear that supporting the community isn’t just a business decision—it’s a part of who we are. Whether you’re dining at the restaurant or dropping off a donation, you’re playing a part in something bigger: helping neighbors in need.
Naomi’s efforts remind us all that in tough times, we can lean on each other. It’s not just about what we serve on our plates, but how we show up for the people around us. And right now, that’s exactly what Coeur d’Alene needs.
